Job Title: Wildlife Educator
Term: One year from start date, 3 month probationary period
Work Schedule: Schedule to be determined based on workload and bookings, and may include weekends, holidays, and evenings. Regular hours (ie with no presentations) will be 8:30am-4:30pm (M-F). Staff will be responsible to manage days off to accommodate presentations on weekends, holidays and evenings. Work schedule will be approved one week prior at weekly meetings.

Travel: Mileage to and from presentations inside and outside Winnipeg city limits will be reimbursed at a rate of $.62 per kilometre charged to the client. Other mileage related to the duties outlined in this Offer of Employment will be reimbursed at a rate of $0.62 per kilometre. A log detailing your kilometres travelled in support of PWRC work is to be submitted monthly

Position Summary: The Wildlife Educator inspires children, youth, and communities to care for wildlife through engaging, hands-on programs and interactive learning experiences. This role supports the organization’s mission of wildlife rehabilitation and conservation while fostering curiosity and stewardship.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Wildlife Educator books, delivers, and coordinates the PWRC Education Program to the public.
- Ensures participants and clients are satisfied with the quality of programs and services delivered.
- Developing and delivering educational programs for different age groups and audiences, such as school groups, community organizations, and the general public. Learning all materials and doing presentations on a regular basis.
- Creating and maintaining educational exhibits, displays, and interactive activities that promote conservation and wildlife education.
- Marketing the education program and social media posts: making our services more visible to Manitoba educators and members of the public.
- Collaborating with other professionals, such as wildlife biologists, zoologists, and park rangers, to develop educational programs and activities.
- Participating in outreach events and community activities to promote awareness of wildlife conservation issues.
- Developing or updating current educational materials, such as brochures, videos, and websites, to communicate conservation messages to a wider audience.
- Recruiting Volunteers: finding and screening volunteers able to participate in training for the education team and doing presentations within schools.
- Providing training and mentoring to volunteers and staff members who assist with educational programs and activities.
- Animal Care: continual training of all animals to ensure smooth presentations and maintenance of equipment such as jesses (leather pieces used to guide animals) and travel boxes.
- To schedule meetings and frequent communications to Education volunteers to discuss upcoming programs, presentations, new ideas, etc.
- Researching grants that would help support the education program.
- Other duties that arise or are assigned by Directors
Volunteer Management & Recruitment:
- To advertise, interview, and accept appropriate volunteers to assist in education program activities.
- To organize and prepare orientations for new volunteers.
- To train and supervise education volunteers.
- To promote a positive image of PWRC with the volunteers and ensure that they feel appreciated and welcome in the organization by creating appreciation and recognition events and programs.
Skills:
- Strong communication skills to inspire diverse audiences, sharing knowledge about wildlife, conservation, and environmental stewardship.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Experience creating, delivering, and adapting hands-on, interactive programs that connect children and youth to wildlife and foster a lifelong respect for nature.
- Creative, Enthusiastic, Energetic
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to respond to concerns, adapt programs as needed, and ensure a positive experience for participants, volunteers, and community partners.
Qualifications:
- a bachelor’s degree in a related field such as zoology, wildlife biology, ecology, environmental education or a related field is required.
- In addition, relevant work experience in a related field, such as working in a zoo or nature center, can also be valuable.
- Public speaking experience necessary. Bilingual an asset
- Experience with domestic animals required, animal behaviour & training an asset
- Access to a vehicle and valid Manitoba driver’s license.
- Excellent communication skills, creativity, and a passion for wildlife conservation are also essential qualities for a Wildlife Educator.
- Skilled in delivering and adapting educational lesson plans
- Experience coordinating programs.
- Experience with community networking and outreach.
- Experience working in a non-profit environment.
- Experience with volunteer management & supervision.
- Experience creating social media posts and creating with Canva.
