Now accepting Resumes for Summer Positions
At PWRC, our busiest time of year is the summer months May, June, and July, when hundreds of young and orphaned animals are admitted to the centre. Fortunately, we have the help of paid summer staff as well as volunteers to handle the 14 hour days- 7 days a week. Currently we’re accepting cover letters and resumes for the upcoming summer term. We also will be organizing a New Volunteer Orientation in April for those interested in helping PWRC in a volunteer capacity. The date will be determined shortly.
Information about the Summer positions:
General care and husbandry of injured and orphaned wildlife which includes: daily feeding of wildlife patients, daily administer of medical treatments, hourly feedings of infant wildlife for the morning shift 7am to 3pm or evening shift 12-8pm, fluid therapy, force feeding sick patients, weighing animals, and disinfecting indoor and outdoor enclosures. Enclosure maintenance which includes pressure washing enclosures, raking floors, painting, minor repairs of enclosures and small construction projects. Administrative projects include data entry, recording daily observations and treatments and filling out admission forms.
Ideal candidates are students with a science, biology, animal-related backgrounds, conservation, ecology, or pursuing environmental degrees. Applicants must be between the ages of 16-24 for the requirements of the government grant. Any animal handling experience is an asset. Applicants must have own transportation to our rural site as there’s no bus transportation. These positions are physically demanding so we are looking for applicants that can lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors all day, and quickly organize feeding schedules and tasks. Shifts are days, evenings, and weekends.
